Actually quite a few countries have .com.whatever such as Australia which is
.com.au Argentina which is .com.ar Mexico which is .com.mx Hong Kong
which is .com.hk
quite a few use .co.whatever such as South Africa which is .co.za and New
Zeland which is .co.nz
Israel is .co.il
Only a few still have the .whatever such as Switzerland with .ch. I
understand even France is now moving towards .co.fr
So alas, there is no real uniformity at all which gets very confusing for
lots of people.
